***About me / Wer ist MECAMO?*** (in english & german)

HI THERE!

my name is mel (mecamo), the night owl, and i started this as away to stay motivated and connect with other creative people. also to keep in touch with my family and friends (most are living over seas...)...

...i like to be busy and creative (why always in the night?)...i used to work the last couple of years as an educator/teacher (psychiatry, youth club, kindergarten, boy/girl scout groups). and the contact to all great babies, children, teenagers, handicap people and parents gave for my life a big challenge and a chance to see things different...

i am from germany and moved few months ago to USA and married there...so, my husband and i live with our 2 wonderful dogs and my father-in-law in a modest area of miami... right now i study "life" in USA. i have a deep passion for traditional japanese culture, especially in the areas of arts, languages & textiles. my inspiration is found in the simple & beautiful moments of our everyday life. i am a shinnyo-en member and would be more then happy to meet here other members or people, who are interesting in shinnyo-en, because it"s more then hard to practise here in miami...i don't have children, but i love to make toddler-stuff. it reminds me of my former kindergarten-work. i really really terrible miss you "RAPPELKISTE"...

HALLO!

...Vielen Dank fuer's Vorbeischauen...(2006)

Mel is the brains behind MECAMO and it is her hands personality that lovingly create each item from scratch. Mel is also an German expat with a funny accent who is best known for her baby designs, bags and wood-work...

MECAMO developed from Mel’s life long passion for D.I.Y. arts, crafts and old school fashion (especially for kids) mixed in with her deep appreciation for Vintage textiles and Nature-and Japanese designs. Her years of creating has left Mel with a keen eye for unique colour and pattern combinations. Sometimes, this means it takes her hours just to choose the perfect yarn/cotton-or soyballs/wood/paper and fabric combination for one item because not only does she want the item to be aesthetically pleasing, she wants meaning behind them. Mel moved from Duesseldorf and Essen to Miami in February 2006 and finds herself also highly inspired by the beauty of nature surrounding her new home. She loves the ocean and the tropical climate.

In her spare time, Mel can be found in her kitchen cooking great vegan or vegetarian food or in her garden doing garden-work or playing with her dogs, cooking her dogs "real" fresh & healthy food, trying to learn Japanese and practicing English in addition to being an avid bookworm, devouring many books over, and over again, enjoying the beaches/parks and jogging/walking with her husband and dogs, creating new patterns, sitting for hours at the desk and making new stuff, helping animals in need and she loves to collect everything.

Mel’s biggest weakness (besides chocolate and vegan 'Gummibaerchen') is being unable to resist gorgeous vintage fabric with cute patterns. Her fabric stockpile threatens to overtake the tiny cottage! Whilst this is bad news for her living space, it is great news for MECAMO as there is only one way to use the fabric - make more items!

Miss Taiyo
